New Feature Rollout: Channel Transparency, Voice Readouts, and Improved Navigation

Summer 2025 – SuperSmart TV is excited to announce a new wave of feature enhancements designed to improve viewer experience, support accessibility, and make channel discovery easier and more intuitive than ever before.

1. Channel Transparency Through Wikipedia Integration

We’ve launched a revolutionary feature that dynamically compares the titles of Open TV channels with publicly available content from Wikipedia. This allows users to see detailed ownership and operational information about a channel—right within the SuperSmart TV interface. Curious about who owns or runs a particular station? Just hover or tap, and you’ll know. It also helps channel owners as well as our own engineers identify errors.

This new feature is enabled by default and can be easily toggled off in the Settings Panel for those who prefer a streamlined experience.

Looking ahead, this integration lays the groundwork for a dynamic “What’s On Now” listing for movie and entertainment categories—delivering up-to-the-minute show listings and content descriptions right from trusted, publicly accessible sources.

2. Subtitles Read Aloud – Now Available to All

Accessibility just got smarter. Our powerful Subtitle Readout system is now open to all users, not just premium members. This means:

  • Support for multiple subtitle data channels
  • Audio readout in a wide range of voice options and accents
  • Real-time translation into over 50 languages (premium feature)

We’re proud to share that this breakthrough has been developed using Spain’s TVE channel ‘24 Horas’ as our benchmark. This channel broadcasts in Spanish with embedded subtitles, and our system lets users choose English subtitles generated by TVE and read them out in a chosen voice or accent.

While real-time translation may not yet be perfect in every case, it’s a core part of our long-term roadmap—and it’s already a game changer for international audiences and users with visual impairments.

3. Smarter Navigation for Open TV

Enjoy more intuitive navigation across the Open TV section. We’ve improved how the back button behaves, especially when browsing channels within categories, making it easier to return to previous views.

Additionally, we’ve now mapped the channel up/down buttons on supported remote controls, allowing users to flick through channels just like traditional TV—no clicks, no menus, just seamless channel surfing.

Stay Tuned – More to Come!

At SuperSmart TV, we’re committed to giving users and broadcasters powerful, transparent, and inclusive viewing tools. Whether it’s through smarter channel data, enhanced subtitle accessibility, or simplified navigation, we’re always working to make your experience better.
